“Hart” in Canada’s Capital

Time may is running out for Senators GM Pierre Dorion to produce his list of two to three suitable Head Coaching candidates, as team Owner Eugene Melnyk told Prime Time Sports that he expects his team to have a short list by Friday.

As the playoffs roll along we’ve seen more teams letting go their coach, most recently Bruce Boudrea due to an early elimination, and yesterday the Calgary Flames announced that they had let go of their coach Bob Hartley.

Hartley was the toast of the league last season taking a weak rebuilding Calgary Flames team to the second round of the NHL Playoffs. He coached his team to a 48 – 28 – 6 record last year, winning the Jack Adams Award (as the leagues best coach.)

Perhaps to be expected, the Flames came back down to earth a bit this season going 35 – 40 – 7  I believe you could pin point it to poor goaltending.

We know that Mike Yeo, Guy Boucher, Randy Carlyle, Kevin Dineen, Marc Crawford, and Bruce Boudreau were all considered, but I think Hartley should be strongly considered and if he’s interested in the Senators he’d certainly be one of my top two choices.
