Q-Roundup

We are now two games into the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League finals, with a couple of Senator prospects battling for the President’s Cup.

Game 1

2014 seventh round draft pick Francis Perron picked up an assist as his Rouyn – Noranda Huskies doubled up Shawinigan Cataractes. 2015 second round draft pick Gabriel Gagne scored his 10th goal of the playoffs to give the Cataractes the lead in the third period but the Huskies scored three unanswered goals to win the game 4 – 2.

Game 2

Francis Perron picked up the only assist on the first goal of the night and scored the last goal as the Huskies downed the Cataractes 4 – 1 in game #2. Gabriel Gagne was held pointless snapping his 4 game point streak.

Perron is currently tied for the most points in the QMJHL playoffs with 27  points (11-16) in 15 games played. Gagne is tied for 7th with 20 points (10-10) in 18 games played.

Bruce Boudreau off the list

Cross a name off the list for possible Ottawa Senator coaching candidates, because former Anaheim Ducks coach Bruce Boudreau has come to terms with the Minnesota Wild.

For a brief period it seemed like Boudreau and the Senators were a perfect fit as he had the experience the team was looking for and they were close to home for him. But as these things go, the Wild made Boudreau an offer that he couldn’t refuse, plus they’re built to win (and go deep) now while the Senators could be a playoff team nobody expects them to be more then a first round team they are still a bit away from being a contender.

In my opinion the door is now wide open for Bob Hartley, who I believe is the best choice, should GM Pierre Doirion offer the job to him.

2016 IIHF World Championship

  • Defenseman Chris Wideman picked up a power play goal as Team USA beat Team Belarus 6 – 3
  • Defenseman Codi Ceci picked up an assist and Forward Mark Stone had a goal and assist as Team Canada beat Team Hungary 7 – 1
