Senators hire Guy Boucher

The Ottawa Senators have announced that they’ve sign Guy Boucher to a three year contract to become the 12th head coach in franchise history.

“Over the past three weeks, Pierre Dorion and our hockey operations staff have undertaken a thorough and comprehensive search for our next head coach. Following a detailed evaluation of all coaching candidates, there was overwhelming consensus that Guy was our top candidate,” – Owner Eugene Melynk

Boucher’s Coach Career:
1996-97 McGill University Redmen (OUA), asst. coach
1997-00 Rouyn-Noranda Huskies (QMJHL), asst. coach
2000-02 Lac St. Louis Lions (Quebec Midget AAA), head coach
2003-06 Rimouski Oceanic (Quebec Midget AAA), asst. coach
2006-09 Drummondville Voltigeurs (QMJHL), head coach
2009-10 Hamilton Bulldogs (QMJHL), head coach
2010-13 Tampa Bay Lightning (NHL), head coach
2014-15 SC Bern (National League A), head coach

Boucher has a reputation of being an attention to details type coach, very systematic, which is something that could be beneficial to the team as long as they believe and buy into his system. If not he could lose the room, as was reported to have happened during his stint with the Tampa Bay Lightning.

*Update[09.05.16] – Boucher has brought on Marc Crawford to his coaching staff. I like this move, as Crawford is a players coach and can help offset Boucher.
